Our build experience so far

Like many families, we entered the building process with hope and excitement. We imagined celebrating the usual milestones—earthworks, slab down, brickwork and, eventually, moving into our three-bedroom home.

The sales process was efficient at the time, and our prestart experience was very positive. Construction, however, has been far more difficult and uncertain than we expected.

Earthworks were on 27 February 2026, followed by the slab pour on 17 March 2026. After slab down, there was no substantive construction activity observed on site for 108 days.

We’ve been advised in writing that the revised practical completion inspection date is 3 July 2027—491 days or more than 16 months after earthworks were completed. This date is based upon New Choice Homes 12 Month Build Time Assurance.

The builder is currently working on roof framing. Our home is small by new build standards; it has a total area of 159.15m², including the garage, alfresco and porch. Wall painting and flooring outside the wet areas are not included in our contract, so additional work will still be required after handover before we can move in.
